Stump Grinding in Highlands Ranch, CO

Nothing Left Standing But Your Lawn. Just up C-470 from our Littleton base. Owner-operated, certified and fully insured.

Stump grinding across Highlands Ranch

Highlands Ranch is a short drive up C-470 from our home base in Littleton. We grind stumps in all four of its main areas, Northridge, Southridge, Eastridge and Westridge, from the older streets near the original town center to newer homes on the south side.

Much of Highlands Ranch was landscaped as the community was built, so many of those trees are now mature, and some were planted too close to houses, fences and sidewalks. When they come down, the stump is what's left to deal with.

The owners show up to every job. We call Colorado 811 first, grind 6 to 12 inches below grade, and can haul the grindings away or fill and seed the hole.

HRCA covenants and approvals

Almost every home in Highlands Ranch is part of the Highlands Ranch Community Association (HRCA), which has covenants and design guidelines for landscaping. Before you remove a tree or change your yard, check whether your project needs HRCA approval and whether you're expected to plant a replacement tree.

Trees in the right-of-way between the sidewalk and the street can fall under the Highlands Ranch Metro District rather than the homeowner, so check with them before removing one.

After we grind, our soil & seed service leaves a finished patch of lawn, which helps keep your yard in line with HRCA standards. Narrow side yards between homes are common here, and our equipment fits through standard gates.

Trees we see in Highlands Ranch

The stumps we grind most often in Highlands Ranch:

Ash. Planted widely when the neighborhoods were built, and now a concern with emerald ash borer nearby.

Honeylocust and maple. Common front-yard and parkway trees that can outgrow tight lots.

Blue spruce and pine. Evergreens near foundations, fences and patios that have gotten too big for their spot.

Crabapple and other ornamentals. Smaller stumps, but often tucked into tight corners and garden beds.

If the stump is close to a sprinkler line, a fence or the house, send a photo that shows what's around it so we can plan before we quote.

Highlands Ranch stump grinding FAQ

Will grinding damage my sprinkler lines? We call Colorado 811 for utilities, but private sprinkler lines aren't marked by 811. Point out sprinkler heads near the stump when you send your photo and we'll work around them.

Can you fit into my backyard? Our equipment fits through standard gates. Tell us if yours is narrow or if the stump is up steps.

Does the HRCA require me to replace the tree? Requirements vary, so check your HRCA guidelines before you schedule.

Who handles trees between the sidewalk and the street? Those can fall under the Highlands Ranch Metro District. Check with them before removing one.

How soon can you get here? Usually within 4 to 5 business days. That includes time for the free Colorado 811 utility locate we request before every job.

Emerald ash borer and Highlands Ranch

As of our last check, emerald ash borer had not been officially confirmed inside Highlands Ranch. It has been confirmed all around it: Littleton in 2023, Centennial in 2024, and Parker, Douglas County's first case, in 2026. The Highlands Ranch Metro District has said it assumes EAB has already reached local trees.

If you have ash trees, now is the time to plan. Have a certified arborist look at them and decide whether treatment or removal makes sense. Signs to watch for include a thinning canopy, D-shaped exit holes in the bark and heavy woodpecker activity.

When an ash comes down, we grind the stump below grade so the spot is ready for a different species. See our ash tree stump removal page for replanting tips.
